Default Folder Sharing to New Business Units

Did you know that every time you create a new business unit that all existing shared folders are automagically shared with that new BU?

When working in an instance with hundreds of business units under a franchise business model, we developed a solution that allowed the creation of segments for each location using shared data extension folders.

However... While everything was working really well initially, we found that despite careful permissions set on the folders when the bulk of the business units were setup, any newly added Business Units automatically adopted the folders of their brothers and sisters. The only solution was to spend a full day to manually go into the permissions of HUNDREDS of folders to remove the permission to the newly created business unit.
